WHAT IS THE IDEAL ANGLE TO CHARGE A CONCRETE MIXER TRUCK?

March 5, 2015

14″ to 16″ is ideal; elevation difference between the front and rear axle.
Charging a concrete mixer truck via a dry concrete batch plant can be challenging with a range of mix designs. The amount of cement, rock vs sand, and total water can create a plugging situation in the mixer truck hopper. Charging the mixer truck too flat can have the material momentum slow down by hitting the mixer drum blades on the lower end, while having a mixer truck charge too steep 18″+ can have the same negative effect by having the material hit the mixer drum blades on the upper end.

Charging a mixer truck in-line with the batch transfer conveyor is approximately 15 yards/hour faster, compared to having the truck charge at a perpendicular angle. If a side charge is needed, charging the mixer truck from the right side of the plant is faster then the left.
