How to remove a Dodge Speed Reducer Backstop on a conveyor.

July 10, 2023

Although most electrical motors on a new CON-E-CO Concrete Batch Plant are phased or rotation checked at the factory, the rotation of material conveyors need to be field checked because they cannot be prewired.  In order to protect against the motor accidently running backwards and breaking the conveyor backstop, it is best to remove the backstop or conveyor V-Belts prior to powering up the plant.  It is easy to physically remove a Dodge backstop once you know how it works.  Basically the steel brakes are spring actuated maintaining contact with the shaft housing.  If the conveyor roles backwards the steel brakes stop the head pulley.  In order to install the backstop the manufacture uses a plastic wire tie to hold the steel brakes down so you can slide the unit into the housing.  Once installed you remove the wire tie and the brakes spring out.  To remove you slide the backstop out evenly and with a slight rotation in the free direction.  Below are some pictures as well as quick instructions to download.
