Depending on the mixer truck loading travel direction, truck shrouds can come in different configurations and applications.
December 2, 2025A back in truck charging configuration is the simplest to allow a truck to be charged and the residual dust of cementitious materials to be collected and recycled. A back-in shroud is typically hung from chains supported by the plant frame to reduce the opportunity of a mixer truck snagging and pulling down a fixed shroud. The charging boot is fixed to the material head box and is made of ¼” – 3/8” gum rubber to be flexible enough to fall into the truck hopper for charging material into the mixer drum.
Drive through shrouds are fixed to the plant frame but include a rear panel that opens and closes to allow the truck to drive though into position, and side panels or “gull wings” that open out and away from the mixer drum as the truck travels through into position. Two other items that are needed are a drip pan and up/down charging boot. Both of the items play a import role in keeping residual water and admixture from dripping onto the cab of the truck as well as lowering the gum rubber boot into the mixer truck charge hopper once in position. Keep in mind the addition of the drip pan and telescoping boot will add another 18” to the height needed for a mixer truck to be able to drive through a loading lane
