BIBKO 2000 Concrete reclaimer with 5 meter buffer and NOBLE 42,000 gallon above ground expandable slurry tank.

Industry:Ready-mix Concrete

End User:7/11 Materials Inc. – Modesto California

7/11 Materials Inc., a ready-mix and aggregate materials company with operations throughout Central California.  7/11 Materials is owned and operated by the George Reed Inc. in Modesto California.

7/11 Materials Inc. operates five ready-mix plants.  The company produces about 600,000 cubic yards of ready-mixed concrete annually.

Business Objective: 7/11 Materials Inc. recently upgraded their Modesto facility to include a new CON-E-CO PLP Concrete Batch Plant.  The new plant increased the site production of concrete, and allowed 7/11 to re-route the Mixer truck load out and staging area.  With pending California EPA requirements focusing on the process water generated by Ready-mix operations, 7/11 Materials needed a compliant system that removed the process water from being stored in typical below grade water pits.  In addition to the process water being produced by the production of concrete, 7/11 Materials also needed to contain the yard water and re-use it for production of fresh concrete.

ASTM C-94 and California Department of Transportation allowed the re-use of water within industry parameters.

Solution: A BIBKO 2000 Concrete Reclaimer with a 5 meter truck washout buffer was used to meet the site current and future requirements.  Mixer Trucks could discharge/washout on either side of buffer increasing the flexibility of the site traffic.  A NOBLE 42,000 gallon Expandable Slurry tank met the current and allowed the future expansion of the system.  The specific gravity and temperature of the slurry water is monitored, and re-used in applicable mix designs.

By designing a BIBKO Concrete Reclaimer System that does not require the need of Mixer Truck ramps, the area of choice for the Reclaimer could be utilized and have a lower cost of installation and operation.

Dark Green plastic tanks with a sloping tank bottom, were added to the system to store the yard process water for re-use into fresh concrete, and the BIBKO Reclaimer.  The plastic tanks piping were installed in parallel, allowing for a tank to be used or isolated from the overall system.  Each tank holds approximately 7,000 gallons of water.

Installation of the new system did not impact the continuation of the production of concrete at the site.

Result: The Reclaimer addition now allows 7/11 Materials to re-use the process water into applicable mix designs, with recordation and real-time monitoring.   Operating costs have also been reduced, with the reduction of site water to be managed.

By using a dedicated 500 GPM slurry water pump, plant production has been increased.

7/11 Materials currently operates 3 BIBKO Concrete Reclaimer systems within its Concrete Batch plants in the Stockton – Modesto market.
