CON-E-CO 12 Yard tilt mixer additions allows operator to utilize existing transit mix plant for temporary 2 year project.
Industry: Ready-mix Concrete End User: Ameron Hawaii Ameron Hawaii., a ready-mix and aggregate materials company with operations on Oahu and Maui of the state of Hawaii. Ameron Hawaii is owned and operated by Ameron International in Pasadena California.
Ameron Hawaii operates two quarries and six ready-mix plants. The company also produces concrete pipe. Annual production of aggregate is more than 4 million tons, and the company produces about 600,000 cubic yards of ready-mixed concrete yearly.
Business Objective: Ameron Hawaii Maui operation needed to temporarily convert their existing Lahina transit mix plant to a central mix plant for a 2 year project. The project mix design included a proprietary use of foam into structural concrete. Unfortunately the annual volume of concrete produced in the local market could not justify a long term central mix commitment. The addition of a 12 cubic yard tilt mixer could not have a long term impact on the original Transit Mix plant, and the temporary upgrade would have to have a minimal site upgrades to reduce plant down time. Existing permits would need to remain applicable during and after the project. At the end of the project, the new tilt mixer would be needed to be relocated to Ameron Maui’s primary operation for a long term Central Mix addition.
Solution: By designing a CON-E-CO 12 Yard tilt mixer with self contained legs to grade and a new 36” batch transfer conveyor, the existing dry batch plant can be converted to a central mix plant in 5 days. The impact and down time of the plant conversion will be kept to the minimum.
Result: The tilt mixer addition engineering had a minimal site impact, and installation costs. The low profile foundation design for the new central mixer, will be used as a mixer drive way when the plant is converted back to a transit mix plant at the conclusion of the project.
By locating the new Tilt Mixer perpendicular to the existing Transit Mix plant, established Truck Mixer approaches were left in place minimizing the site layout.
Plant production of the old Transit Mix Plant was opened up by 60%, with the elimination of transit mix loading. Quality of the concrete mix was standardized with one plant operator confirming the final concrete mix slump.
Charging time of Mixer Truck was reduced by 70% with direct fuel savings, and increase fleet management.
“The temporarily addition of a CON-E-CO Tilt Mixer for this 2 year project, finally enables us to afford the long term addition of a central mix to our primary operation site on the other side of the island - Maui”
